Since its original release, Tannhäuser has engaged thousands of players with its deep narrative, innovative mechanics, and action-packed gameplay. Now, Fantasy Flight Games is improving on the strong foundations of this remarkable game system with the Tannhäuser Revised Edition Rulebook! For those unfamiliar with the rich alternate-history universe of Tannhäuser, a bit of background is necessary...

The year is 1954, and the first World War rages on. The forces of the Union strive to end the conflict through the use of advanced technology, created from the alien wreckage discovered at the Roswell crash site. Their foes are the Reich, led by the occult-obsessed Kaiser. This foul army of evil scours the globe for ways to enhance their prodigiousArt 1esoteric abilities, with the ultimate goal of crushing life under a demonic boot. Squads of possessed super soldiers sweep through Europe led by the Marquis General, Hermann Von Heïzinger. Fresh to the fight, the daughters of the frozen lands to the east bring to bear the awesome electrical power of Nikola Tesla. Known as the Matriarchy, these warrior women swear no alliances, and have their own shadowy agenda. The war is reaching a fever point, and only one side can win!

The Tannhäuser Revised Edition Rulebook improves upon the innovative mechanics of Tannhäuser, original published by French game developer Take on You. At 88 pages, this perfect-bound book is intended as a comprehensive replacement to the original Tannhäuser rulebook; it includes revisions to the core game rules, as well as those originally found in the Operation: Novgorod expansion, along with the Wolf, Yula, Gorgeï, and Ramirez single figure packs. In short, it includes all the rules players will need for any Tannhäuser product currently available. What's more, players who currently own a copy of Tannhäuser needn't worry about their game becoming obsolete; the Tannhäuser Revised Edition Rulebook utilizes all of the current Tannhäuser components, and requires no additional purchases!

A number of rules enhancements were developed and rigorously playtested, but among the most significant are those made to the combat system, which now more accurately reflects how each weapon would perform in the field. Players no longer need to consult their opponent's sheets in order to figure out if a shot is successful. Additionally, all weapons roll a pre-determined number of dice... so a pistol will fire the same number of shots, no matter who wields it. However, the skill of a combatant will determine how many of those shots will find their mark. In return, the intended target still receives a chance to avoid the incoming fire via the familiar Shock roll.

Another rule that has undergone revision is the Victory Point system. In the originalArt 3system, Victory Points were a dual-purpose tool; their acquisition (in some game modes) is the sole victory condition, but they also served as a sort of currency, and could be spent to allow a player to execute certain tactics. We at FFG wanted to update this concept to make the game a bit more dynamic, so Victory Points have been replaced by Command Points.

Victory is no longer based on the acquisition of points (in any game mode), but rather on the successful completion of whatever objective the game mode calls for... creating a more thematic, and often less arbitrary, game experience. This also frees both sides to make genuine strategic decisions without having to worry about affecting their final Victory Point tally. Each side will begin the game with a number of Command Points based on the mode of play, and they refresh at the start of each turn, giving players a constant stream of options.... and more options means more fun.

The game's various modes of play have received special attention as well, expanding on Tannhäuser's already high level of replayability. For example, deathmatch mode will provide each side with two Command Points each turn. These can be used to increase a stat on a model's card for the rest of the activation, place a model on Overwatch (a state that allows a move at a more strategic time), or allow a player to re-roll his initiative. These additional options ensure that going forward, deathmatch mode will offer a satisfying strategic experience, but it will remain just as brutal and action-packed as always. This, along with changes to the functions of various items and other tokens, ensures that the Tannhäuser system is meets its true potential.

So what are you waiting for? The war thus far has been mere preparation for what is to come. Never have the three competing factions had so much to gain, or so much to lose. To which faction will you lend your tactical genius? Will it be the technologically enhanced Union? Will it be the occult-fueled Reich? Will it be the electrical fury of the Matriarchy? Whether you're a Tannhäuser veteran or a newcomer, the Tannhäuser Revised Edition Rulebook delivers the gameplay you've been looking for!
