GTM #212 - Infinity Beyond
by Gutier Lusquinos

A situation that players entering Infinity through our Battle Packs (Operation: Icestorm and Operation: Red Veil) used to face was the uncertainty of what to buy next and how to confront the N3 rulebook after playing the tutorial missions. This was addressed in the Battle Pack booklet, which suggests two products per faction needed to complete a 300-point list with a TAG, an iconic Infinity figure. However, there was a need for a unique product that answered this question for both factions of each Battle Pack.

Nowadays, it also seems desirable to have an access guide to the N3 rulebook. New players could use another set that allows them to dive into the N3 rules, aided by the troops that the player already has available and the previous starter - because the best way to learn to play is by playing!

But, we didn’t want to make this product more expensive by introducing additional booklets. It was in our interest to keep the price-point low and offer a tutorial guide for free on our website. So, we configured each Beyond box with all these ideas in mind. However, we wanted to honor the product’s name and go beyond, and include the veteran Infinity players by offering them something new and rewarding.

In addition to allowing the Imperial Service to field the CSU, we also included a new profile in the box that is in neither N3 nor in Human Sphere, and then tweaked some already existing profiles. That’s how the Kriza Borac surfaced - a Nomad troop that only veteran players were aware of as it was merely mentioned in our First Edition of Infinity, but didn’t have a known profile. The PanOceanian Kamaus also had their profile redone for their future Sectorial Army of Varuna, the same as Tarik Mansuri in forethought of Haqqislam’s next Sectorial Army, the Ramah Taskforce. Even the Khawarij’s options with Spitfire have been modified.

Also, the new profiles have two new rules, so we advanced some material from the next Infinity book. From Tarik Mansuri we learn about ‘Fatality’, a Special Skill that allows users to spot vital areas on the target, increasing BS weapons damage. While Kriza Borac utilizes ‘Full Auto’, a Special Skill that represents the ability to accurately control a weapon during fully automatic fire, increasing the Burst of BS weapons. Its Level 2 iteration also applies a negative modifier to enemies.

These are the Beyond packs, a step forward as a product, as miniatures, as game aids, as game profiles, and as skills. You can see Infinity is moving forward! Don’t get left behind!
