GTM #198 - The Spoils Celebrates a Decade of Deckadence
by Arcane Tinmen

“What’s this?” you say, gazing at the box with the enticing artwork. “Some sort of…game?”

Oh yeah, baby!

We here at The Spoils Card Game are celebrating our 10 year anniversary and inviting you to play the best card game this side of Luridia. It’s been one heck of a decade, full of debauchery, depravity, and decadence, and the Decade of Deckadence Cube and Core Set is designed to honor the past while blasting The Spoils off into the next decade!

This beautiful, self-contained base set includes 67 of the most powerful cards in the game’s history, plus an added 89 brand-new ones for your infinite drafting pleasure. Combine two for unlimited sealed play and automatically own a playset to crush newbs at your next VICTORS Organized Play tournament.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: you’ve got enough trading card games. Binders full. Your desk is literally overflowing with playmats and your girlfriend (we’re giving you the benefit of the doubt here) found dice in the laundry again.

Fear not, gaming king. The DoD is designed for play as a standalone game for two to eight players. No further expansion is necessary (although once you get a taste of that sweet cardboard…well, you know how this goes).

Card game enthusiasts may be familiar with the “cube” concept: In essence, players compile a selection of the most powerful cards from their favorite game’s history to hold casual drafting events. The games are wham-slam fast and powerful, highlighting the best the game has to offer. With the DoD, we’ve created a product that lets many of the most powerful cards from the history of The Spoils shine, while adding 89 brand-new, extremely powerful cards to the mix.

“Uh, I play card games. You think I have eight friends?”

Good point. Not much of a limited player? No problem. Each DoD comes with two copies of each card. In The Spoils, each deck can only contain four copies of any given non-staple card, which means combining your DoD with a second grants you full access to several powerhouse decks. Play it like an expandable card game and add a stray booster here and there – when you get that pack-cracking itch. Since we’ve chocked this thing full of the best cards in the game, you won’t necessarily need to add boosters to take down your local tournament.

“You think I got card gaming money?”

Well…yeah. We do. We think you love card games and we’re not asking you to quit your favorite game in favor of ours. We live in an ”And” world, not an ”Or” world. You can grab yourself a copy of the Decade of Deckadence for an MSRP of $39.99 in the US – less than half the price of a normal booster box. Whether you play it as a stand-alone drafting game or use it to build your own decks, forty smackaroos is a steal!

“Okay, you got me with the artwork on the box, but I don’t have anyone to play with.”

Yeah, we hear that a lot.

That’s one of the reasons we made this product. The DoD is the perfect entry point for new players of The Spoils. Each box comes with everything you need to play, including twenty of each resource, Faction cards, a brand-new, full-color rulebook, tokens…what we affectionately call the works. There’s never been an easier way to play The Spoils Card Game – whether you’re a veteran or a newb, this is the best jumping on point you’re likely to see this decade.

The DoD will serve as the core set for the next cycle of sets, codenamed “Chicken,” “Noodle,” and “Soup,” to release Q4 of 2016 and into 2017. It will be legal in our standard constructed format, called “Current”, and will form the basis of a brand-new format, called ‘Cycle’, beginning with the release of “Chicken.” Cycle is designed as a new player’s card gaming dream - skip ten years of sets and jump on board with the DoD in this faster paced format with unique rules that won’t impact Current. (Don’t fret, Veteran players – we’ll be officially supporting Current, but will also support Cycle).

So let’s review. Each DoD comes with 428 cards – 67 reprints, 89 new Rare or Uber rare level cards, resources, tokens, factions, and a rulebook. Play it as a stand-alone cube, or use it to build decks. Have your store sign up for our free VICTORS Organized Play program (www.thespoilscardgame.com/victors) and start gun-slinging locally for promos, prizes, and untold glory.

And who knows? With this puppy under your arm, there’s a good chance you just discovered your new favorite game. Welcome to the party!
