~ A New Form of Expansion ~

Hero and Monster Collections are a new type of expansion for Descent: Journeys in the Dark Second Edition. Each one contains four heroes, three or more monster groups, and two brand-new quests. The noble heroes and deadly monsters in these expansions fit seamlessly into your campaign with art and sculpts matching the quality and aesthetics of Descent: Journeys in the Dark Second Edition. Designed to highlight the full strengths and abilities of the monsters and heroes included in a collection, the two quests included in each expansion are an unique complement to the heroes and monsters within Hero and Monster Collections.

To examine the heroes and monsters from Oath of the Outcast more closely, we’ll look at a hero and a monster group included in this expansion.

~ Heritage of Battle ~

Laurel of Bloodwood is a proud and dangerous elf, and her ancestral skill can serve a group of heroes to good effect. A high stamina grants her the versatility to move around the battlefield and trigger special abilities, making sure she’s always where the players need her. Her hero ability makes her even more deadly in her fight against evil. Laurel’s ability deals an extra damage whenever she performs a Ranged attack and her total range exceeds the distance to her target.

Laurel’s heroic feat offers even greater potential for a high-powered attacks from the safety of long-range. Triggering Laurel’s heroic feat as an action allows a player to make an attack – but this attack cannot miss. A miss is treated as a blank result during this attack, and to add insult to injury, the attack gains +10 range and an automatic surge! By using Laurel’s feat at the proper moment, a player can cut down a fleeing enemy, or pick off a master monster hiding behind minions. Since the range will almost certainly exceed the distance to the target, players gain an additional damage from Laurel’s hero ability.

~ Speed and Ferocity ~

Greatly feared by all who value their lives, a colony of razorwings can cut through a column of veteran soldiers in mere minutes. Whenever speed is crucial to the overlord’s victory, he would do well to consider razorwings. A master razorwing moves six spaces with a single move action, and since all razorwings have the Fly ability, they easily traverse any kind of terrain, leaving the heroes to fumble along in their wake. If razorwings do turn and fight, however, they can prove deadly opponents. Razorwing talons and teeth can rend through armor and flesh alike, and both minions and masters can surge for extra damage. If the heroes somehow manage to keep up with a flock of razorwings in full flight, the master razorwing can spend a surge to stun a hero, forcing them to lose an action and helping other razorwings get further ahead.

~ Take an Oath ~

Oath of the Outcast opens a host of new opportunities to players through the heroes, monster groups, and quests. Even with just one Hero and Monster Collection, a player can quickly expand his options. Begin enhancing Descent with Oath of the Outcast!
