Tom, a SEAL Lieutenant Commander, was responsible for a team of highly trained commandos. Today, however, it was only he and Jack, the best Navy SEAL diver Tom had ever seen. The current mission was to retake a sea-based Gas and Oil Platform (GOPLAT) that Iraqi insurgents had seized in the Persian Gulf. Jack and Tom had to act with no warning, no delays, and minimum destruction. They would have to first clear insurgent Expecting the first phase of the mission to be insertion into the area (1st Op cards were 2 Yellow and 4 Blue, signifying air and water skills), Tom and Jack prepared the weapons and EOD gear. Tom gave the word and they were off. Before the insertion could be completed Tom expected problems. At the insertion point, some insurgents in a speedboat appeared, on perimeter patrol. It took quick rifle work from both Tom and Jack to ensure the enemies would not report back. The insertion then went without a hitch (3 Events; two Marksmen, one Water, and the 1st Op). The next phase was taking their inflatable raft through the mines (2nd Op: Purple 3, Blue 3). Tom and Jack pulled out additional equipment, rested briefly (giving Jack +2 from an Energy Gel Shot), and made excellent time, thanks to unusually accurate maps (Computer; increase the time counter by 2). Tom decided his Outer Tactical Vest was inhibiting his movements, so he discarded it. Maneuvering through the water was no problem for Jack, but the team was surprised by an insurgent hiding in a channel marker. Tom got a grazing hit in the leg, but Jack’s return fire took out the sniper fhfitiowowjdj The SEALs identified the The next phase required the two to reach the base of the platform, climb aboard, and report their status (3rd Op: Green 3 and Purple 2; Tom called “Hooyah” with 2 health left on the Time Counter). With minimal preparation, the pair reached the GOPLAT. A hatch at the base of the GOPLAT also proved to be stubborn, but Tom forced it open. The base of the GOPLAT had only one guard which Jack took out silently, so the SEALs quickly contacted HQ and took a quiet breather, pausing to patch Tom’s minor wound (5 Events; one Tech, one No Effect, one Strength, another No Effect and another Strength, and the 3rd Op and Tom gaining 2 Health Counters). Tom knew there would not be any more prep time, so he squeezed everything he could out of the time before the 5th phase. Equipment had to be cleared so the choppers The final piece of the mission was a piece of cake. Thanks to the preparation done earlier, the SEALs had no trouble calling in reinforcements, and capturing the remaining insurgents. In all, 32 crewman were taken prisoner with no fatalities and no damage. (Mission: Yellow 2, Blue 3, Red 2) Mission accomplished! |
