~ The Coming of Haqqislam ~

This month, a new army is introduced: Haqqislam, the New Islam. A smaller power, itpossesses only a single star-system, called Bourak. Separating itself from fundamentalism, Haqqislam bases its culture on an Islam which is humanistic, philosophical and in continuous contact with nature. Committed to a constant search for Knowledge, the two major strengths of Haqqislam are Biosanitary Science and Terraformation, encompassing the best schools of medicine and planetology in the Human Sphere.

However, Haqqislam sits among the great powers mainly thanks to its strict control over the precious Silk, a powerful drug developed by Haqqislamite chemists and a key strategic resource in the Human Sphere. Silk and its derivatives are a synthesis of a natural resource only available on planet Bourak and the synthesis process for Silk is veiled in secrecy that not even the best retro-engineering can penetrate.

The importance of Silk is due to its indispensable involvement in Resurrections. The majority of the Human Sphere’s citizens wear a Cube, a sophisticated wetware brain implant, a quantronic biotechnological microprocessor which records the memories and personality of its carrier. Once dead — and thanks to the synthesis of Silk — the Cube can be implanted into a Lhost, a clonically-adapted biosynthetic body. The process that allows the Resurrection of those stored in Cubes is very expensive due to the high price of Silk, with Haqqislam holding a monopoly over its synthesis and trade.

Haqqislam considers the Sphere as Allah’s great work, the material expression of unity with the divinity that is Knowledge. The Sphere has to be conquered through humanism and Haqqislamite philosophical ideas, turning it into a better place to live, in which there will always be time for reflection. This conquest can only be achieved by dominating those means of economic and social distribution that are the trading routes, and through which control of the valuable Silk and its derivatives flows.

To defend the interests of Haqqislam and to ensure the monopoly of Silk, the Haqqislamites count on a large military force, called ‘Allah’s Sword’, famous in the Sphere for the courage and willpower of its troops. In this army, light units, on foot or motorized,are the main wave of aggression, with their greater capacity of movement and deployment, receiving support from smaller select and better-equipped troops. Elite Haqqislamite troops are often biogenetically enhanced, through secret Supersoldier programs that provide them with exceptional abilities.

As you will see in the Human Sphere sourcebook, the Haqqislamite military force is divided into small armies with specialized operational tasks. There is the Qapu Khalqi force, dedicated to protecting Silk commerce and traffic all along the trading routes. Regular units created under the Qapu Khalqi’s command have specific training in security, protection, and counter-terrorist military tasks.

The Qapu Khalqi is a tactically balanced force composed of highly specialized, biogenetically-enhanced operators such as the Djanbazans and also a great number of mercenary troops. This fact, unique to the Haqqislam army, gives this force a mixed nature — the Qapu Khalqi regulars are official troops with a proven loyalty to the state and Haqqislamite faith, as are the Janissaries, while foreign mercenaries are employed mostly from the Nomad Nations. The result is an exotic-looking and rather motley military body, but with a proven efficiency that keeps the space lanes and Haqqislamite commercial traffic safe, allowing Silk to flow without interruption.

The other Haqqislamite thematic army shown in the Human Sphere book is the Hassassin Bahram, the fearsome and enigmatic Society of Assassins. Theoretically, the Hassassin Society is the Haqqislamite Intelligence agency, but it is no common government organ, not even in the turbulent world of espionage. The Hassassin form a secret criminal sect, financed by Bourak’s government, whose mission is defense of the Haqqislamite faith and the Search for Knowledge.

The Hassassin Society was formed by mystics and scholars obsessed with delving deeper into truth and reality — who were also fanatical warriors willing to give their lives for Haqqislam. ‘Assassin philosophers’ would be the most clear and exact description. The Hassassin have taken the arts of murder and combat to their highest peaks and placed them in the category of an exact science, as well as a means to reflect upon truth and knowledge.
