In the Fair of Wonders, almost anything can be found - even lost relics from time long gone. The Scarecrow King walks the aisles and searches bazaars, occasionally touching something, always looking. With the right tool, Alice could rally the townspeople’s support, and shake off Winter forever. In a small stall, under a pile of rubbish, the Scarecrow finds an ancient bronze hookah, glowing with inner light. As he lifts it out, a blackwood cane raps his hand sharply, and he looks up into the cold eyes of the White Rabbit. “Just the thing for my Nightmare Factory,” the rabbit murmurs…
Set in the immersive atmosphere of Wintertown, players in Winter Tales, a narrative board game of storytelling and fairy tale adventures, weave a story of the struggle between the Regime of Winter’s soldiers and the rebels fighting for the return of Spring. As players complete quests, lay traps, and engage in battles, they create an entirely new story with every game.
In each game of Winter Tales, players control the actions and efforts of popular fairy tale characters, as the factions of Winter and Spring battle for control. On the side of Winter, characters such as the Wolf, the Mad Hatter, and Candlewick work to squelch the rebellion and ensure that Winter’s reign is never broken. Spring’s supporters, on the other hand, include characters like Alice, Grandma Dorothy, and Pinocchio, who must stage daring raids and lay cunning traps in order to break the soldiers’ hold on Wintertown.
In Winter Tales, each player must take control of these well known characters and use them in completely new ways, questing, battling, and telling the story of Wintertown. Will you join the rebels and seek to bring about the return of Spring? Or will you enlist with Winter’s Soldiers, and ensure that the icy reign of the Regime never ends? In Winter Tales, the choices are yours, and every story presents a new opportunity for storytelling and imaginative play!
