GTM #167 - Congratulations to the 2013 Best of the Game Trade Award Recipients!
by Emily Eickhoff

Game Trade Magazine would like to congratulate all of the winners of the 2013 Best of the Game Trade Awards announced in October! Since the birth of the awards in 2012, Alliance and Game Trade Magazine have teamed together to create the game industry’s leading best practices contest.

The Best of the Game Trade Awards exist to place a much deserved spotlight on local game stores that exemplify what makes our industry special. The awards are judged by a jury of retailer peers at the annual Alliance Open House. In addition to awarding stores for their outstanding performances, the awards build community among retail store owners which cultivates a creative and resourceful opportunity for store owners to share ideas and in-store practices.

The inaugural 2012 Awards were a great success with a total of 56 store nominations.  In 2013, Alliance and GTM received a total of 80 self-nominated submissions; a 43% increase in store participation in 12 months! All of the nominations were broken into categories and voted on by peer retail store owners at the Alliance Open House in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on October 4-6 2013.

The seven award categories represented this year were Best Board & Family Game Section, Collectible Card Game Section, Gaming Area, Miniature Game Section, Organized Play, Roleplaying Game Section, and Tabletop Display.
