Shaolin Warrior Monks practice Zen Buddhism and are superb martial artists. The severe discipline and rigorous training they endure in the temple turns them into instinctive fighters, both fast and lethal. Shaolin monks are always ready for combat, liberating their mind and moving without inertia, set to act in any direction. Yu Jing’s army uses Shaolin as light assault troops and spearheads to break through and disband enemy formations, a task they perform with lethal beauty. It is easy to see that the Shaolin are the main Yu Jing War-band. They show many other features of the Infiniy universe Warbands: they are Impetuous, Irregulars and fitted for close combat. Possessing a CC Attribute of 19, Martial Arts Level 3, and a Shock, AP or Explosive CC Weapon, they are resolutely turned towards the melee, in which they show great talent. Just for a ridiculous Cost of 5 Points, the Shaolin is armed with a Chain Rifle, whose whose effectiveness is demonstrated. Also, possessing a Willpower Attribute value of 14, allows him also to easily succeed Intuitive Shots, quite useful when dealing with Camouflaged troops. The worries about the Shaolin is their tendence to paradox. Thanks, or because, to their Impetuous characteristic, each Shaolin has an extra Order, added to his Irregular Order, retaining the possibility to take more from the Order Reserve. This quality provides to the Shaolin with a very aggressive profile, the faster opponent, focused in to reach the eney and engage in short range combat. Alas, the life expectancy of an Impetuous at the beginning of the game is more limited when facing all the AROs of your adversary. It is therefore necessary to curb his enthusiasm at the beginning, until find holes in the iron all of your opponent’s AROs. By spending an Order at him, the Shaolin will be calmed for the rest of the turn.
Patience is a virtue. Specially when you realize that, having the Shaolin amongst your own lines is to possess an impor-tant asset in defense. A parachutist, an Impersonator, and other brave troop who dares to approach too much, quickly gets acquainted with the savagery of a Shaolin who automatically will rush toward him. However, the Shaolin has another advantage, the Smoke Grenade. It can be used to cover his advance and his comra-des’. Possessing a Physics Attribute value of 13, the Smoke Grenade thrown at his feet has a unmodified oll of 16. Quite useful when facing difficult ace to Face Rolls. If you want to reach with the Smoke a longer range, you can take a Shaolin armed with a Combi Rifle + Light Smoe Grenade Launcher. This troop option will allow you to create a smoke wall in the middle of the game table at the beginning of your first turn, to cover the advance of your Shaolin but also of the unit you have designed as the spearhead of your combat force. Useful for defense, brutal and effective, the Shaolin is a wild-card for the Yu Jing player. However, do not forget he is a free electron. Being Irregular, he will not give Orders to his co-lleagues. But he is also a Religious Troop, so your Shaolin will not be affected by the Retreat! rule and he will keep fightingcovering the withdraw of the other troops or trying to achieve an objective if you are playing a mission or scenario. The Shaolin Warrior Monks are a must-have for any Yu Jing player, not only by their effectiveness in the game table but also for the superb, dynamic and highly detailed sculpt of this multi-part figures. Shaolin will prvide lots of fun painting and playing with them, a release any Yu Jing player cannot miss! |
