by Fantasy Flight Games

Fantasy Flight Games is thrilled to bring you X-Wing, a miniatures game of starfighter battles in the Star Wars universe! Starting this summer, you can take on the role of squad leader and command a group of merciless Imperial pilots or daring Rebels in furious space combat.

Featuring dynamic rules and stunning miniatures, X-Wing recreates exciting Star Wars space battles. Select and equip your ships, plan your attack, and blast your opponent into oblivion! Today, we want to give GTM readers an overview of X-Wing’s gameplay, along with an exclusive preview of the “Biggs Darklighter” Ship card and the “R2-F2” Upgrade card from the X-Wing core set!

~ Launch into the Blistering Action ~

With an accessible ruleset, X-Wing is easy to learn and provides fast and furious strategic gameplay. At the start of each turn, secretly lock in your movement on the maneuver dial for each of your ships. Then, starting with the ship with the lowest pilot skill, move your ships using the convenient maneuver templates.

Immediately after moving each ship, it can perform a single action. These actions have a wide range of benefits; for example, Evade boosts your ship’s ability to dodge attacks, and Acquire a Target Lock increases your chances of hitting your target during the Combat phase. You can learn more about actions by reading the X-Wing previews on the Fantasy Flight Games website.

~ Destroy the Opposition ~

During the Combat phase, each ship may perform one attack against one enemy ship inside its firing arc and within range. Starting with the ship with the highest pilot skill, players make their attacks. This means pilots like the brave Biggs Darklighter, with a pilot skill of five, generally attack in the middle of the Combat phase.

To perform an attack, the attacker simply rolls attack dice equal to his ship’s primary weapon value (the red number on the Ship card). Next, the defender rolls defense dice equal to the defending ship’s agility value (the green number on the Ship card). After each roll, players can spend action tokens and resolve abilities that modify their roll. Players then compare results and assign damage. After all ships have completed this process, players start planning for the next round.

~ Become Your Favorite Star Wars Fighter Pilot ~

In X-Wing, you can assume the role of many famous Star Wars characters. Take the role of the brave Biggs Darklighter, who has an uncanny ability to draw fire away from nearby allies. While standard X-wings have a sturdy hull (the yellow number on the Ship card) and come equipped with shields (the blue number on the Ship card), Biggs draws a lot of fire, so he would benefit from additional defensive capabilities. Biggs’ droid, “R2-F2,” is an Upgrade card that increases his ship’s agility value. Paired with Biggs, their two abilities synergize into an impressive combo.

Biggs and R2-F2 represent just one potent combination of Ship and Upgrade cards. With thirteen Ship cards and five Upgrade cards included in the X-Wing core set, you have many options to choose from. Future X-Wing expansion packs allow for even further customization, as you have access to new ships, more skilled pilots, and powerful upgrades.

With its straightforward game mechanics and beautifully detailed components, X-Wing immerses players in the tense cinematic excitement of Star Wars starfighter battles. Launch your squadron this summer and decide the fate of the galaxy!
